VIDEO DESCRIPTION This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to create the most adorable snowman in the world with lots of expression, a fluffy body, and a hat with character, and a tiny red bird with the perfect birdhouse for shelter. Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors well create a whimsical wintry image with dimension, warm colors and a playful happy composition filled with detail. So lets get painting and lets get sipping!
MATERIALS:
Canvas: 18x24 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: #12 flat synthetic, #12 round synthetic, #4 round synthetic
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, cobalt blue, green oxide, mars black, burnt umber, fire red, chrome orange
Other: palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes
STEPS:
1. #12 round brush — Pre-mix gray and outline snowman with white, brown and black
2. #12 flat brush — Paint background with gray
3. #12 flat brush — Paint base coat of snowman with white, blue and brown
4. #12 round brush — Paint first layer of hat with black
5. #12 round brush — Paint arms with black
6. #12 flat brush — Paint shadow with black and gray
7. #12 round brush — Paint first layer of pine trees with black and green
8. #4 round brush — Paint bird with red, brown, white and black
9. #4 round brush — Paint birdhouse with blue, red, black and white
10. #4 round brush — Paint rosy cheeks white red and white
11. #4 round brush — Paint scarf with black, green, brown and white
12. #4 round brush — Paint nose with orange and white
13. #4 round brush — Finish details on face with black
14. #4 round brush — Paint buttons with black, white and gray
15. #4 round brush — Add snow to birdhouse, arms and scarf with white and gray
16. #12 round brush — Add snow to pine trees with white
17. #12 flat brush — Add snow in sky, ground and on snowman with white
18. #4 round brush — Signature with black
